ABOUT ME

Hello! I am Dr Alley Marie Jordan & I am a garden historian. I publish both academically & non-academically on garden history, with a specialty in ancient gardens & their receptions.

I completed a PhD in Classics at the University of Edinburgh where I researched Roman garden poetry & its reception in the 18th-century villa. I also have a MA degree in History, so I am both a classicist and historian.

I have written for The Mediterranean Lifestyle Magazine, Blumenhaus and more! I am currently writing a book with Bloomsbury on Roman garden literature in 18th-century America.

I am a specialist in ancient gardens and early modern gardens (i.e. Baroque & 18th-century). I love to experience gardens with a classical element, whether that be a temple folly or a poetic reference. I also enjoy researching gardens represented in Art History.

I live in Edinburgh, Scotland, but am originally from the United States where I grew up amongst the vineyards & orchards of both Washington & California. I now split my time between Scotland and Spain.
